Joe Citro Re-Election Kickoff for Tampa City Council Dist. 1

Introduced by Andrea Gonzmart Williams of the Columbia Restaurant Group, Tampa City Council Chair Joseph Citro kicked off his re-election campaign for City Council Dist. 1 Wednesday evening before a packed crowd of family, friends and supporters at Santo’s Drinkeria rooftop bar before Public Defender Julianne Holt offered closing remarks.

Citro expressed surprise when supporters including former St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman and former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco appeared.

Former Senator Arthenia Joyner also brought a moment of surprise to Citro, as did former Judge Hon. Dennis Alvarez.

“This council has been like no other,” Citro said. “Less than one year into our term we were faced with a pandemic.”

“We had no peers from which we could have asked advice, we experienced peaceful protesting in our City and a recession.”

“However our City came through all these events better than any other city in the nation. I am proud to have been part of Tampa’s City Council during these trying times and even prouder to have help lead us out of them”

“My last campaign I made a promise to “Keep Tampa moving forward.”

“This campaign, my promise remains the same as if a city stops moving forward it will not prosper.”

During both terms as Chair of the CRA, I was able to designate funds for housing.

During the pandemic, the Board assisted residents with rental payments for their homes and I fought for 10 million dollars to be used to buy land for workforce/affordable housing and another 5 million for surrounding infrastructure.”

“I had a wonderful time tonight with so many friends who are happy to endorse me for re-election to Tampa City Council, District 1.”
